About

Certified Deep Tissue Sports Massage Therapist Matthias Philippine.

Bonjour!

My name is Matthias Philippine, I use he/him pronouns, and I am a CAMTC Certified Massage Therapist (CMT). I am a french american born and raised in the bay area and love my communities here. When I’m not busy with massage therapy I enjoy fencing at the East Bay Fencer’s Gym in Oakland, climbing in the gym and outdoors, cooking and trying new recipes, spending time outdoors, and playing video and board games! I care about sustainability and social equity among a plethora of other issues afflicting our society.

The world of massage opened up to me when I was fifteen and injured my back at a fencing competition. It was my first major injury and my back was in agony, but the sports massage therapist at the event was able to stop my back from spasming with an ice pack and some manual therapy around my injury. It was the fastest and most effective care I have ever received and the experience stuck with me.

I went on to fence in the NCAA while earning a B.S. in Computer Science at Johns Hopkins University. After graduating, I worked in the health tech industry as a software engineer for four years. It wasn’t until a decade after my first massage that I decided to learn about bodywork at the San Francisco School of Massage and Bodywork. I graduated and earned my Massage Therapist Certification in the fall of 2022 with a focus in therapeutic work. I personalize every massage to my client’s needs utilizing swedish, deep tissue, trigger point, myofascial massage, and proprioceptive neuromuscular facilitation techniques to relieve hypertonic muscle, structural imbalances, and soft tissue related injuries. I’m also interested in learning about shiatsu, reflexology, craniosacral therapy, hot stones, pre and post natal massage, and more as I continue to learn about bodywork. Other than my private practice for which I do outcalls in the bay area, I currently work with Pacifica Massage and Wellness, a therapeutic massage clinic in Pacifica, and with Dr. Dwayne Acoba’s chiropractic business out of Endgame Athletics (EGA) and Community Fitness Oakland (CFO) in the East Bay. You can book me at any of the above locations with links included on my booking page.

What drew me to health tech work as a software engineer and ultimately to bodywork as a massage therapist is the joy and accomplishment I feel in helping others, a motivation that allows me to do my best work as a hands on care giver. I believe each person lives in their body differently, so I value communication during my sessions to work as effectively as possible with each of you. Thanks for reading, and I look forward to working with and getting to know you better.
